11/11/2023 0 Comments End of you season 1Like, say, maybe a revelation that Beck isn’t dead at all? It’s absolutely far-fetched but Reddit and Twitter, at least, are lapping up the theory that Beck is alive and simply being held captive by Joe, or faked her own death in order to escape Joe’s fury. Gamble has already confirmed that You Season 2 will "diverge a little bit more from the second book than we did from the first," so there’s room for even more unexpected surprises to come into play. Considering we know that Season 2 will take place in Los Angeles, and we saw Paco headed for California the end of Season 1, something tells us Paco will be back - and it won’t be for the better, at least for Joe. Something tells us that poor Paco will have a hard time keeping it together under the weight of a murderous secret - to say nothing of seeing Beck in Joe’s basement before she died - and that will certainly spell trouble for our killer leading man. Joe wasn’t very nice to her, and she’s not feeling all that charitably toward Joe."Īnother big difference that could mess things up for Joe in Season 2? Paco! A complete fabrication for the television iteration, Joe’s neighbor is complicit in some of Joe’s dirtiest deeds. I can say she’s not feeling particularly disposed to be nice to Joe. As co-creator Sera Gamble told Vulture, "Candace does indeed have a role in Season 2. We’d put good money on the fact that Beck will show up in Season 2, no longer the ignorant victim, but the ghostly conscience haunting Joe’s dreams and nightmares (ala Candace in Season 1), critiquing his every messed-up move - very likely while Candace tries to finally prove his guilt once and for all. In the book, Candace is definitely dead, and it is a newcomer by the name of Amy Adam that catches Joe’s eye, insinuating that it’s all about to happen all over again.īut here, we’ve got a more interesting wrinkle, flipping the dynamic of the first season on its head and reversing the roles to put Joe on the defensive. In the show, Candace, Joe’s ex, waltzes into the book store to surprise him, despite the narrative (and Joe himself) heavily implying that Joe killed her before he began dating Beck. Which brings us to perhaps the biggest divergence from the novel: how it ends. (And there’s still that PI hired by the Salingers on his tail, don’t forget.) Nicky for the crime) not only gives Joe a way to escape suspicion for her murder, but also will, very likely, provide a roadmap to Joe’s actual misdeeds that Candace can follow, if she’s interested in bringing him to justice. But this new context (Joe positions Beck’s fictional novel as a true memoir that frames Dr. Unfortunately her plan fails, and as in the show, Joe kills her, burying her in Dr. In the book, although Beck still ends up dead, she spends the last few hours of her life not writing, but reading The Da Vinci Code with Joe, having sex with him and faking being dead to try and escape him.
